L. Kevin Levine, a native of Huntington, West Virginia, engages in a practice concentrated in entertainment, copyright, trademark, and business law. Kevin has represented diverse clients both in and outside the "limelight," including musical artists, songwriters, producers, record labels, music publishers, filmmakers, visual artists, literary authors, personal managers, business managers, and other individuals and businesses in a variety of industries. Helping creative entrepreneurs build and expand their brands is one of the most fulfilling aspects of Kevin's work.
Kevin graduated magna cum laude with a B.B.A. degree in Marketing from Marshall University in 1993 and also received his M.B.A. degree from Marshall University in 1996. Before law school, Kevin was a member of the West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio business communities. He then attended the West Virginia University College of Law, from which he received his J.D. degree in May of 2002. Kevin also holds a Specialist Certificate in Music Business from the Berklee College of Music extension school.
In law school, Kevin was a published member of The West Virginia Law Review (the fourth oldest law review in the U.S.), for which he also served as Executive Research Editor from Fall 2001 through Spring 2002. Kevin's article, Digital Audio Distribution via the Internet: Is it a “Platinum” Idea or a “One-Hit Wonder”?, was published in the Fall of 2001 at 104 W. Va. L. Rev. 209. Also while attending the West Virginia University College of Law, Kevin was a teaching assistant for the school’s Legal Research and Writing Department; the first-place winner of the ASCAP Nathan Burkan Memorial Writing Competition for his piece titled, The Audio Home Recording Act of 1992; and a member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association.
Kevin is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and its Entertainment and Sports Law Section, the West Virginia State Bar and its Committee on Intellectual Property, and a past member of the American Inn of Court. Kevin is admitted to practice law in Tennessee and West Virginia state courts and in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia. He also is recognized by the West Virginia State Bar as a trained mediator. Kevin is also an assistant professor in the Marshall University Lewis College of Business and the Marshall University School of Music, where he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in music business and law, legal environment, entrepreneurship, marketing, and management.
Before founding L. Kevin Levine, PLLC, Kevin was a member of DeSalvo & Levine PLLC in Nashville, and previously practiced with Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, where he chaired the firm's entertainment practice group. Before law school, Kevin served as Director of Sales and Marketing for The Pied Piper, Inc., a musical instrument and audio-video retailer founded by Kevin's father and uncle, which in 1991, Music Trades magazine ranked the third largest full-line music retailer in the United States. Kevin has been an active musician (drums and percussion) for many years and is a member of Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI); the former Chapter Coordinator of the Charleston, West Virginia NSAI Chapter; an ASCAP-affiliated songwriter; and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Kevin enjoys performing music, writing, boating, motorcycling, flying fixed-wing aircraft, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
